Our History

Granite was established in February 2008 with the goal of optimizing the student housing market in West Lafayette, Indiana. We started with 13 properties in 1 market with 4 staff members. Today, we manage over 400 properties in 8 markets with a team of more than 70 people. Granite has been recognized as one of the Top 15 Third-Party Managers by Student Housing Business with more than ten thousand beds under management. 

We believe in comprehensive, results-oriented property management. We are dedicated to going above and beyond while maintaining our reputation as the cutting-edge property management provider on the campuses where we operate. 

We know that by focusing on the development of our people, we will ensure sustainable and superior service. Our culture exudes initiative and enthusiasm because our core values – humility, integrity, accountability – are at the heart of everything we do.

Brent Gutwein

Managing Partner, Chief Executive Officer

Brent is a graduate of Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science and an MBA. Prior to founding Granite, Brent owned AAG Venture LLC, a production farming operation and grain elevator. He also was a CEO for Gutwein Groves, Inc. He is the co-founder and president of Boulder Group, LLC – a real estate asset management firm and holds an Indiana real estate broker’s license. In addition, Brent is also a co-founder of M25 Group, a VC firm in Chicago. Brent has widened his business exposure with ownership in the Lafayette Aviators, a college wood bat baseball team, and Miracles Fitness, a gym offering personal training/Pilates/yoga, and Solo Ceibo, a real estate development in Costa Rica.  Brent is an avid runner and enjoys spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

John Rabold

Chief Executive Officer

John is a 2007 graduate of the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. He has spent his professional career gaining experience in an array of industries, including retail, event production management, and manufacturing. He has served as the General Manager for a boutique private equity firm where he oversaw all facets of the business, including sales and marketing, operations, accounting, customer service, and more. On the side, John participates in several entrepreneurial ventures including a waste management business, a self storage facility, and more. John is also a Bloomington, Indiana native, where he still resides with his wife and three children where he enjoys being an active leader in the community.

Stuart Gutwein

Partner, Chief Strategy Officer

Stuart is a graduate of Purdue’s Krannert School of Management and a Magna Cum Laude graduate of the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. He is a co-founder and partner of Gutwein Law and co-founder of Boulder Group LLC – a real estate asset management firm.  In addition, Stuart is also a co-founder and board member of M25 Group, a venture capital firm based in Chicago and an owner and board member of the Lafayette Aviators – a summer collegiate wood bat team.   Stuart serves on the Indiana Business Law Survey Commission (an advisory commission to the Indiana Legislature on Indiana business entity law) and on the Board of Directors for the Lafayette Catholic School System, the Lafayette Christian School Foundation  and Greater Lafayette Commerce. He enjoys spending time with his family and coaching youth baseball.

Justin Farris

Senior VP of Strategic Initiatives

Justin Farris brings over two decades of accomplished leadership across multiple facets of real estate, including capital, development, acquisition, and operations. He has held leadership positions with several well-known organizations, including Gene B. Glick Company, Trinitas, Greystone, Birge & Held, and Mainstreet—where he served as Managing Director overseeing investment, development, and management initiatives in the student housing sector.

In 2017, Justin founded Spectra, a real estate investment, development, and management company specializing in student housing and workforce housing. Currently, Justin serves as Senior Vice President of Strategic Initiatives at Granite, a third-party property management company based in Lafayette, Indiana.

Justin is a 2000 graduate of Ball State University, where he studied Advertising and Journalism in the College of Communication, Information, & Media, alongside Marketing in the College of Business.

A native Hoosier, Justin is a believer, husband, father, and avid cyclist who values balance, purpose, and leadership both in business and in life.

Joel Brovont, CPM

EVP of Management Services

Joel is a graduate of Purdue University’s School of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership and Supervision and has also received his CPM® designation through the Institute of Real Estate Management. After graduating from Purdue, he co-founded and ran a 501(c)(3) non-profit music ministry with his wife for several years before coming to work at Granite. Joel enjoys spending time with his wife and children, being involved in local church ministry, as well as running and playing a variety of intramural sports.

Kevin Jones

Executive VP of Development and Innovation

Kevin Jones is a 2009 graduate of the Hankamer School of Business at Baylor University, where he earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in Entrepreneurship. Over the course of his career, Kevin has built a strong track record of innovation and leadership across the student housing and utility management industries.

In 2008, he co-founded SimpleBills, a pioneering utility management company designed to simplify the resident experience while driving operational efficiencies for property owners and managers. Following the company’s acquisition by RealPage, Inc., Kevin continued to serve in executive roles, including Vice President, where he helped expand technology-driven solutions within the multifamily sector.

Kevin currently leads as Executive Vice President of Development & Innovation at Granite, where he focuses on growth, advancing systems, processes, and technology that enhance operational performance and client value.

Based in Waco, Texas, Kevin is passionate about entrepreneurship, innovation, and creating meaningful impact within the real estate and property management space.

Ryan Deweese

SVP of Accounting & Finance

Ryan is a graduate of Purdue University with a BS in Accounting and Finance.  Prior to coming to Granite, Ryan worked in Public Accounting.  He also held leadership roles of CFO, Group Financial Officer for a Division of a Public Company and General Manager of a manufacturing company where he oversaw all facets of the business, including plant operations, accounting, sales, purchasing and human resources.  Highlights of Ryan’s career have seen him produce record breaking profitability as a GM, multiple merger and acquisitions, and large scale budgeting and forecasting projects.  When Ryan is not working he enjoys time traveling with his wife.  He also enjoys the time he has with his family.

Amanda Good

Chief of Staff

Amanda has spent more than two decades at the intersection of executive leadership and organizational operations — building the processes, partnerships, and team alignment that turn strategy into results. She currently serves as Chief of Staff at Granite, where she partners directly with the CEO and COO to lead strategic initiatives, improve operational rhythms, and strengthen process alignment across the organization. Known for her thoughtful leadership and results-driven approach, she is a trusted partner who helps move priorities forward with clarity and momentum.

Outside of work, Amanda enjoys time with her family and serves as a Youth Coordinator in her church community. She believes that strong leadership is rooted in service to others — a value she carries into every professional relationship.

Terry Vangelos

Pointe West Market President

Terry has been a real estate broker for over a decade. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Liberty University and he built a career in real estate. Prior to coming to Granite he served as General Manager for a local firm, and then eventually started his own real estate brokerage and management company, eventually moving to full-time property management. In advance to his real estate career, Terry spent 24 years in the Armed Forces, serving 10 years in the US Navy and 14 years in the US Army. In his spare time, Terry and his wife enjoy time with family, camping, and keeping up with their grown children who are spread from Florida to Northern Virginia.

Bryan Koleff

VP of Resident Services

Bryan is a graduate from Purdue University and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Political Science. He has spent the last 10 years working with Granite in a few different roles mostly focused on Leasing and Marketing. Prior to Granite he worked in hospitality, customer service, and management. In his free time, Bryan enjoys spending time with his wife, family, playing/listening to music, the culinary arts, and various outdoor activities.

Josh Mitchell

Regional Market President

Josh is a lifelong Bloomingtonian and 2006 Indiana University graduate where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology. Prior to joining Granite he  spent several years working in the fitness industry before shifting his focus to real estate where he spent 9 years as a Realtor in Bloomington and the surrounding area.  In his spare time Josh spends considerable time coaching youth baseball and softball, playing music and boating on Lake Monroe with his Wife and two children.

Andrew Costa

Director of Accounting

Andrew Costa graduated from Pensacola Christian College in 2008. He brings a diverse background to his role. He spent several years serving the community as a corrections officer and transitioned to Granite in 2015. Outside of the workplace, he has a passion for fitness and art. He has a well-rounded approach to life’s challenges, reflecting his commitment to making a positive impact in all he does.

Hannah Winegardner

Account Executive and Business Development Specialist

Hannah is a graduate of Azusa Pacific University holding a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Business Development. She has a background in volunteer leadership, as well as varying property management roles prior to joining the Granite team. Hannah is based in Washington D.C. with her husband where they enjoy exploring, roadtripping, and finding new local coffee roasters.
